The Akashic Abyss Companion
An optional add-on for your own browser. It is the only way to ask VRChat for an invitation from this site without handing this site your VRChat password. Nothing about it is required to read the Atlas.
What it does, in order
- 1. You are signed in to VRChat
- In the same browser, as you normally are. The companion uses that session. It cannot sign you in and it never asks for a password.
- 2. You grant it two addresses
vrchat.comandapi.vrchat.cloud. Those two and nothing else. The button that asks is in the companion itself.- 3. You press Verify VRChat
- It asks VRChat who you are, and shows you the name it got back. That name stays in your browser.
- 4. You can sign in to Akashic with it
- At your press, it places a short one-time proof at the end of your VRChat status line. Akashic's read-only account checks that public line, creates this browser's Akashic session, and the companion removes its proof again. Your password and VRChat session stay in the browser.
- 5. It fills in the world, if you are on a world page
- The companion reads the world id from the page you have open. It does not act on it until you press the invitation button.
- 6. You press Invite me into the game
- Your own VRChat account asks VRChat for an instance of that world and invites you into it. The invitation arrives in VRChat.
What it reads, and what it sends
- It reads
- Your VRChat session cookie, for requests to
vrchat.comandapi.vrchat.cloud. Nothing else in your browser. - It sends to Akashic
- Only when you press companion sign-in: your public VRChat user id and a short one-time proof it placed on your public status line, then removes. No password, no cookie and no VRChat session are sent here.
- It keeps
- Its own settings, in your browser. Uninstall it and they are gone.
- Akashic keeps about you
- After you sign in, Akashic keeps your public VRChat id, display name, rank and an Akashic-only browser session. It never keeps your VRChat password or session. Your Library, saved worlds, notes and settings are still JSON data in your own browser until you choose otherwise.
Installing it
The companion is signed by Mozilla, and the button below hands you exactly the package they signed. One click, and it stays installed: it survives a browser restart, which the older developer-mode route below does not.
Install the companion What it does with your data
That button hands you the exact package Mozilla signed: version 1.0.11, 78.5 KB. Nothing is built here, and nothing is read from your browser or your VRChat account to hand it over: it is the file itself, served from this site.
- Firefox, Zen and other Firefox builds
- Use the button above and let the browser install it. Installing does not sign you in to anything and does not contact VRChat.
- Chrome, Edge and other Chromium builds
- Not yet. The Chrome Web Store listing is the next step; until it is
live, open
chrome://extensions, switch on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and pick the companion's folder from the project. That route is temporary, and the browser drops it on restart. - New versions
- The companion asks this site whether a newer one has been signed, by itself, about once a day. If you have a build from before it could ask, one more install from the button above is all it takes, and after that nothing needs pressing. It never installs anything that is not signed by Mozilla for this add-on, and it never takes an older version.
- Where the file comes from
- The package is signed by Mozilla's signing service, and the site only hands it over: it cannot and does not rebuild it. The source is in the project's repository, so it can be read line by line.
If you would rather not install anything
The whole site works without the companion. Everything you save stays in your browser. What you do not get is the invitation button: a world page then offers a plain link to the world's own VRChat page, and you invite yourself there in the usual way.
